First of all, my real name is David. Since I was a child my friends have called me by a nickname that sounds like ‘Daff’, so that’s where the name Urbex Daff comes from. I was born in a small Flemish town on the 10th of October 1984, so yeah, I’m a bit older than I look.
Ever since I can remember I have been fascinated by forbidden and desolate places. During my youth, the ruins of an old castle were my playground and, as most of my ex-girlfriends can testify, my idea of going on a date was often going to a cemetery together.
In 2010, the year that I bought my first car, I started driving around looking for other scary places to see. One of the first big locations I found, was an abandoned orphanage where children’s drawings were still hanging on the wall. I still remember it was quite terrifying to be there all by myself, but for me it was an amazing experience never to be forgotten.
I learned on the internet that my unusual hobby had a name: urbex, short for urban exploration. In the beginning I made some pictures, but I quickly switched to exclusively making video.
On the 9th of April 2011, I created my own YouTube channel and from that moment on, Urbex Daff has been an important part of my life.
Sadly, a lot has changed since that time. Urbex has become incredibly mainstream, abandoned places are overrun, vandalized and their coordinates are sold or traded as if it were Pokémon cards.
After all these years, I still love to explore though. I have seen so many beautiful things, I have been caught more than I can count, I had a lot of amazing adventures and I’ve met some awesome people along the way.
It doesn’t matter if you’re with me since the beginning or if you just started following me, I want to say a huge thank you for your support.
Stay in love with decay!
